BigSkyEarth Workshop in Brno

BigSkyEarth COST Action organizes its first workshop, with the topic “Research Matchmaking – Building Bridges Between Disciplines“, in Brno, Czech Republic, on April 14-16, 2016. The workshop participants will have an opportunity to present their research in astroinformatics, geoinformatics, Big Data, data visualization or Big Data outreach, suggest how to expand their work into larger collaborations and seek potential research partners among the workshop participants. The third call for Short Term Scientific Missions

This is the third call for Short Term Scientific Missions (STSM) within BigSkyEarth COST Action. Short Term Scientific Missions (STSM) are exchange visits aimed at supporting individual mobility, strengthening existing networks and fostering collaboration between researchers. A STSM should specifically contribute to the scientific objectives of the COST Action, whilst at the same time allowing those partaking in the missions to learn new techniques, gain access to specific data, instruments and/or methods not available in their own institutions/organisations.
STSM applicants must be engaged in an official research programme as a PhD Student or postdoctoral fellow or can be employed by, or affiliated to, an Institution or legal entity which has within its remit a clear association with performing research. The institutions/organisations where applicants pursue their main strand of research are considered as Home institutions. The Host institution is the institution/organisation that will host the successful applicant. (more…)

Apply to the BIGSKYEARTH Training School

The 1st BigSkyEarth Training School will take place at the German Aerospace Center facilities in Oberpfaffenhofen, Germany, 4-9 April, 2016.

It will gather around 30 researchers for hands-on training on Big Data analytics in astronomy and Earth observation with six expert instructors from the EU and the USA.

The COST Action BigSkyEarth provides grants to 18 trainees from BigSkyEarth member countries for travel and costs of the school attendance.

The fields of astronomy and earth observation are both significant beneficiaries of recent developments in computer science, statistics, and data analysis that broadly fall under the term big data. Big-Sky-Earth is a Horizon 2020 funded COST network designed to bring these three communities together, boosting communication within and between the communities, and identifying common solutions to challenges faced in research and industry across them.
