The 1st BigSkyEarth Training School
The 1st BigSkyEarth Training School will take place at the German Aerospace Center facilities in Oberpfaffenhofen, Germany, 4-9 April, 2016. It will gather around 30 researchers for hands-on training on Big Data analytics in astronomy and Earth observation with six expert instructors from the EU and the USA. The COST Action BigSkyEarth provides grants to 18 trainees from BigSkyEarth member countries for travel and costs of the school attendance.

BigSkyEarth COST Action organizes its first workshop, with the topic “Research Matchmaking – Building Bridges Between Disciplines“, in Brno, Czech Republic, on April 14-16, 2016. The workshop participants will have an opportunity to present their research in astroinformatics, geoinformatics, Big Data, data visualization or Big Data outreach, suggest how to expand their work into larger collaborations and seek potential research partners among the workshop participants. WG1 and WG3 Meeting in Bucharest
The Meeting will take place at the Faculty of Electronics and Telecommunications and Information Technology. The local organizer is the CEOSpaceTech Research Center. The meeting will coincide with the summer school on quantum optics and quantum imaging, also organized by CEOSpaceTech. We will share some lectures with the school. WG2 and 4 Meeting in Finland
The meeting will take place at the Finnish Geospatial Research Institute and will be co-organized by the University of Helsinki, Department of Physics. The main topic of the meeting is preparation of the ITN proposals and how to boost collaborative work within BigSkyEarth network. The BigSkyEarth conference will address the question of how to train a new generation of astronomy and Earth observation scientists in the age of interdisciplinarity driven by big data. Modern data-intensive research requires natural science students trained in software engineering, algorithms, and data mining, data management and visualization. These trends challenge the current paradigm of what constitutes education in astronomy or Earth observation. More information are available HERE.
