Our book is out: Knowledge Discovery in Big Data from Astronomy and Earth Observation

Our COST Action had a unique challenge to bring together people form astronomy and Earth observation and facilitate communication between these two disciplines. One of the outcomes of this Action is the book that is now out: Knowledge Discovery in Big Data from Astronomy and Earth Observation.

Thanks to the hard work of the editors, Petr Skoda and Fathalrahman Adam, as well as of more than 50 authors who contributed to the book chapters, we have now the first extensive book on the transdisciplinary field of AstroGeoInformatics published by Elsevier.

Presentations from the BigSkyEarth Conference: AstroGeoInformatics

BigSkyEarth organized its final conference AstroGeoInformatics – Knowledge Discovery in Big Data from Astronomy and Earth Observation in Tenerife, Spain, on December 17-19, 2018. The conference was hosted by Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias and Universidad de La Laguna. The BigSkyEarth book of the same topic was presented at the conference and will bi published in 2019. Conference proceedings are published as a community on zenodo.org (LINK).

Apply to the BigSkyEarth Training School: Big Data in Simulations and Observations

BigSkyEarth is organizing its final Training School, focused on Big Data in simulations and observations. It will take place at the Tuorla observatory, the University of Turku, on Nov. 26 – Dec.1, 2018. Key practitioners from the astronomy, the Earth observation and the computer science domains will be participating in the School contributing the perspectives of both the academic and the industrial sector. Grants will be made available by the Action for a number of participants. The procedure for applying and for the selection of participants is described below.

BigSkyEarth Conference: AstroGeoInformatics

BigSkyEarth is organizing the conference AstroGeoInformatics – Knowledge Discovery in Big Data from Astronomy and Earth Observation in Tenerife, Spain, on December 17-19, 2018. The conference is hosted by Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias and Universidad de La Laguna. The BigSkyEarth book of the same topic will be presented at the conference! Conference contributions will be published as proceedings on zenodo.org.

WGs meeting in Skopje

BigSkyEarth COST Action organizes its next WGs meeting in Skopje, fYR Macedonia, on July 13-14, 2018, at the Faculty of Computer Science and Enginee¸ring (FCSE), Ss. Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje. The meeting aims and facilitating joint research efforts and finalizing the work on BigSkyEarth book. The workshop will be an opportunity to discuss possibilities for the continuation of BigSkyEarth network collaboration after the end of COST funding.

BigSkyEarth COST Action organized its third workshop, with the topic “Big Data processing in the forthcoming era of ultra-high resolutions“, in Novi Sad, Serbia, on February 26-27, 2018. The workshop participants discussed the challenges that arise with the expansion of remote sensing market using UAVs and with the expansion of astronomical sky surveys and airborne astronomy.
